However, to make smart and connected societies a reality, a vast amount of outside equipment – antennas, EV charging stations, cameras, digital kiosks and other sensors – needs to be deployed.
Telecoms carriers and other smart service providers need to find places to put their devices where they will be close to users. Everyday structures such as utility poles, street lights, traffic standards, bus shelters, parking spaces and edges and awnings of buildings are all useful locations.
These service providers become tenants, leasing space on structures from asset owners who are typically utilities, municipalities or private landowners.
Processes to identify sites, arrange permits and coordinate between asset owners and smart tenants were set up for yesterday. They aren’t scalable for tomorrow - they are too fragmented, too expensive, and take too long to execute.
