The Berkshire DCIA Pilot has now entered the first testing phase, referred to as Phase 1.
This phase will review the current process that is used for Mobile Network Operators (MNO’s) to apply to install 5G small cells on Council owned ‘public assets’.
In this first phase West Berkshire Council, Reading Borough Council and Bracknell Forest Council have been working with our platform provider, Asset Market, to gather, clean and upload data to be used to test how MNO’s can look to host their wireless antenna systems.
The platform and the new process will make it easier for MNO’s to see what assets may be available in a particular area and help them make decisions about where they may want to install devices next.
This phase will allow us to understand challenges that may appear in the application process so that we can see where improvements can be made or the overall process streamlined.
This work will give us valuable information and data to allow us to progress into Phase 2, and to work with remaining Berkshire councils
